Snoopy was adopted as the symbol of NASA's Manned Spaceflight Awareness program in 1967 with the full support of his creator Charles M. Schulz. Thereafter many posters and decals were produced by NASA incorporating Snoopy in the design.
Perhaps surprisingly, very few designs featuring Snoopy were ever produced in embroidered form by NASA. Only the SMEAT insignia used the Snoopy image directly and very few embroidered versions of the patch were produced (beta cloth patches were used by the crew during the tests). The embroidered SMEAT patches are covered on the Test Programs page.
Although not strictly space-related, embroidered patches showing Snoopy as an aviator with goggles and scarf seem to have been distributed to Grumman employees working on the Apollo program and these vintage patches remain popular with space patch collectors today.
At some stage in the recent past unauthorized reproductions were produced of many of the Apollo-era NASA decals which featured Snoopy and unfortunately today these are commonly mistaken for rare vintage original patches, often selling for significant sums. For this reason the largest section of this page is dedicated to identifying some of these reproductions.
This Snoopy patch was apparently sold to the general public but is usually associated with Grumman as it appears to have been presented by the company to its employees as part of the Manned Flight Awareness program.
This version is a regular oval patch with the detail of the design embroidered onto white cloth, but it also exists as a trimmed version.
This oval version is frequently seen with staining in the lower area from the glue used to hold the tail in place on the reverse.
This version of the Snoopy black bordered oval patch has ben identified as being produced and sold by Flint Model Supply. It's not clear whether they also produced the better-known version. The differences are fairly subtle - a less pronounced nose, slightly larger goggles, a broader oval shape.
This patch has the same basic Snoopy design as the oval version but it has been fully-embroidered onto black twill then trimmed around the design. It appears to be more rare than the oval version.
This red bordered Snoopy patch is something of a mystery. The white cloth reverse is sometimes seen on modern patches but similar finishes are also seen on some vintage patches so it is difficult to date this.
The Zero"G"fects patch was worn by some of the crew of NASA's zero-g parabolic KC-135 planes, as visible in this photo taken during Apollo 17 training. It was almost certainly an unofficial patch produced in limited numbers by one of the crew.
The patch features a floating green-faced Snoopy clutching a sick-bag, clearly suffering from the adverse effects of a ride on the 'vomit comet'. The wording is of course a play on the 'Zero Defects' quality assurance campaign.
This patch is a modern unauthorized reproduction of the vintage 'Zero"G"fects' patch, produced by Randy Hunt (4gator) in the 1990s or 2000s.
This patch was apparently created by NASA's Crew Systems Division, who were responsible for testing the Apollo space suits and spacecraft environment, and the limited numbers that have been seen to-date imply that it was only given to members of the team.
Although many of the patches identified below have bare cloth backs, and are sometimes listed for sale as if they might be vintage patches, I believe them all to be modern copies of vintage decal designs, the vast majority produced by Randy Hunt (4gator) in the mid 1990s to 2000s. Unfortunately, despite being modern replicas these are often mistaken by collectors for rare vintage originals and thus sell for significant sums, hence the need to identify them here.
Note that some of the designs below incorporate a "United Feature Syndicate" copyright text. This generally indicates that the original artwork was produced for NASA by Schulz as an official design. However, it does not indicate that the embroidered patch is an official NASA one, merely that the original decal artwork has been reproduced in full by the person who made the patch, copyright text included.

This "Eyes of the Astronauts / Apollo Radar Subsystem" patch is a modern unauthorized reproduction of a vintage decal design, likely produced by Randy Hunt in the 1990s or 2000s.
This patch is a more accurate copy of the original decal design than the Randy Hunt version both in terms of coloration and design. Although it's not possible to date it with certainty the reverse does not look consistent with a vintage patch from the 1960s or early 1970s and I would say it's most likely a modern replica based on the vintage decal design.
